Reagan Novey, BGSU junior, has taken on the position of Falcon Radio operations manager. From hosting meetings, participating as a guest on radio shows, and hosting her own, Reagan shows her dedication and love for Falcon Radio in many ways.
After taking a broadcast class in high school, Reagan knew she wanted to major in media production. On a campus tour, she visited the Kuhlin Center and saw the Falcon Radio booth, and she knew that once at BGSU, she would make her way into that booth as a radio host.
During her radio shows, Reagan claims to “bounce all over the place,” playing songs that spread across her vast taste in music. She will follow up a 90’s alternative rock song with modern country singer Luke Combs. Reagan said she has just as much fun participating in other people’s shows as she does during her own. Having guest appearances by fellow Falcon Radio members is popular within the group, with members having discussions or sharing thoughts about music live. The involvement and love that Falcon Radio group members have for one another’s shows is one of Reagan’s favorite parts about the club and is a testimony to how close the members are.
Reagan has seen the organization grow, noting last year as a big turning point for Falcon Radio in terms of involvement. A tradition started of Falcon Radio members getting together outside of meetings or shows and hanging out at least once a month. These nights include playing games, eating pasta, and forming close connections. Continuing this tradition is important to Reagan, as she attributes the friendship aspect of Falcon Radio to more people joining this year, as well as retention for people continuing through the school year. Another way that Reagan promotes friendships in Falcon Radio is by encouraging members to converse outside of the group.
“I encourage everyone that if they are in the same class, say hi and help each other out,” said Reagan, “Have a study group together, I love study groups.”
This year, Reagan plans to increase involvement outside of the shows, such as tabling for events like campus fest, or DJ’ing at the Oaks dining hall. She also is implementing more of a social media presence this year, in hopes that this will reach more students. This would attract students for more involvement by either tuning in to Falcon Radio to listen or by joining the club itself. Reagan’s advice to students interested in joining is to not be scared, and to take advantage of the opportunity they currently have to try it.
Reagan hopes that more people will tune in to Falcon Radio and that her love for the organization can be shared.
“I always listen to other people’s shows. I always have Falcon Radio on,” said Reagan, “I love hearing people in the studio, it makes me happy.”
