Public relations major and intern Blake Pierce reflects on what Falcon Media offers
“As a student involved in BG Falcon Media, I cannot overstate the importance of this organization to the campus community. Falcon Media has given me the opportunity to explore my passion for the media industry, develop my skills, and gain valuable experience that will help me in my future career.
Not only has Falcon Media provided me with a platform to express my creativity and tell stories that matter, but it has also allowed me to collaborate with like-minded individuals and form lasting connections within the industry. Through Falcon Media, I have been able to publish content, network with professionals, and gain insight into the inner workings of media and journalism. With continued support from alumni, Falcon Media will be able to expand its reach, provide even more opportunities for students, and help prepare the next generation of media professionals for success.
Falcon Media has been an invaluable part of my college experience, and I am grateful for the opportunities it has provided me. I encourage all alumni to consider donating to this important organization and help support the future of media and journalism.
We appreciate your generosity and support, and we look forward to continuing our work with your help. Together, we can make a positive impact in our community and beyond. Thank you again for your consideration and support.”
Freshman Da’ria Cottrell, sideline reporter and sports journalist, jumped right into Falcon Media
“I joined Falcon Media in early September of last year and joining this program has to be one of the wisest decisions I’ve made since being here. I gained real-world experience working in the sports industry, which is very important to me since I plan on working for the NBA after graduation. From interviewing athletes, recording my own footage for highlights, doing socials, broadcasting, and writing for the website and newspaper, you name it, I’ve done it because of Falcon Media.
Falcon Media created new passions for me. At first, I thought I only liked interviewing athletes, but that has expanded since being a part of this program into having a passion for shooting and producing my own content. I strongly recommend this program because it allows you to understand all that goes into positions like broadcasting, shooting footage, reporting, etc. You gain experience which makes it easier to obtain internships and you have fun while doing it.
Although I have only been here for a semester and a half, I really look forward to the future of Falcon Media and all it has to offer.”
Sports reporter Kalen Lumpkins shares his insight on the opportunities he’s enjoyed within Falcon Media
“My time with Falcon Media has been nothing but great. It has helped me take a huge step towards my goal to pursue sports journalism after college.
The students and staff leading the organization have been a delight to work with, and has helped me improved many aspects of my work. I could not imagine another student organization that has helped me to improve my work as much as Falcon Media has.
If I could say one thing, I would say that I wish there were more opportunities to travel to cover games.
If I am able to obtain my dream job later thorughout my career, Falcon Media will be the main reason I get there.”
BG24 anchor Claire Mitchell says joining Falcon Media jumpstarted her career
“It’s true when people talk about the importance of getting involved in college because you never know who you are going to meet and the opportunities that can fall into your lap being a member of an organization. I first got involved in Falcon Media as a lost sophomore, still trying to figure out what I wanted to do and whether I was good enough to be in the news industry. I apprehensively tried out for the anchor position for Falcon Media’s BG24 newscast with the support of those in the organization, and here I am as a junior with almost 3 semesters of anchoring under my belt. Falcon Media has not only given me the experience I need to go out into a station an excel as a journalist, but it has given me confidence in my abilities that will lead me through any job I go into. This group has also connected me with exceptional people in the field but also to people in the community I wouldn’t normally come into contact with through different stories. I am a new and better person because of the people and experiences from this organization. And it’s through those connections and the skills I learned within this group that I was privileged with the opportunity to currently work as the Weekend Morning Anchor for 13abc in Toledo as a junior at BGSU. I’m beyond grateful for Falcon Media”
Please support these and other members of Falcon Media through the BGSU One Day online giving event. When we achieve more than 50 contributors, it will unlock a $5,000 challenge gift from a group of our alumni. Early giving is open on the One Day website.
