Before we jump into a new semester with both feet, I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about the success of a new idea we put into place last semester.
Allison Brown served as our first advertising intern (or at least the first in some time) in the Fall as we sought ways to expand ways to serve businesses surrounding BGSU and provide a solid real-world experience for our advertising majors.
By all measures, it was a success.
A few of Allison’s accomplishments:
• Conducted social media research to glean information on the usage and habits of area businesses
• Contacted area businesses we don’t currently have advertising relationships with to acquire basic point of contact information as well as inquire about their need for employees for our Help Wanted section
• As part of our vetting for billing software upgrade, connected with other universities for feedback on their billing platform
• Connected with student organizations to discuss advertising needs, including making pitches for the Homecoming edition of the BG News
Assistant student media director Tonya Whitman, who handles all of advertising and business development efforts, said “Allison was not only eager to learn and develop her skills in the field of advertising, but she was also willing to simply lend a helping hand to enhance projects for the department. Her team mentality approach was always evident and it will certainly benefit her beyond her time at Falcon Media.”
Our internship program continues to evolve and we’re excited to have an advertising slot as part of the mix. Allison certainly proved to be a great choice for the first one.
