For most students, the weekend before classes begin mixes the effort of moving in with the excitement of connecting with new friends and reconnecting with old friends. For Falcon Media executives, it also meant getting to work.
We spend a good portion of Saturday and Sunday at our third annual Falcon Media Boot Camp, laying the foundation for the year ahead. We took a deep dive into the demographics of our main audience – our students.
How well do you know our students? A quick quiz (answers at the bottom) …
- What percentage of our undergraduates are from Ohio?
- What percentage of our undergraduates are involved in Greek Life?
- What percentage of our undergraduates live on campus?
We also spent some time discussing market research done by our friends next door in the Schmidthorst School of Business to get a better understanding of our brand awareness and what students want from Falcon Media.
One of the highlights – and a new addition for this edition of the Boot Camp: Guest speakers.
Taylor Jefferson and Kyle Edmond joined us from the Athletic Department, talking about the partnership with Falcon Media Sports Network and how we can best work with them to provide better sports coverage.
The partnership is the latest step in our efforts to repair a relationship with athletics that had deteriorated to the point our coverage was suffering. Our new athletic director has worked with us to turn that around and Taylor and Kyle’s appearance is something that simply would not have happened even a year ago.
Mike Campbell, Chief of Public Safety here at BG, also stopped by and provided the executive staff with an overview of his department, which encompasses the campus police, of course, but also emergency management and parking services.
It turned into a great conversation about how Campbell’s team operates and gave the executive team a lot of ideas for coverage.
We also spent some time celebrating our growth over the past year and no matter what facet of Falcon Media they are connected to, they know how to respond to anyone who disparages the reach of our brands.
We engaged in workshops to make sure we are leveraging our social media scheduling platform as well as our website platform and the software we use to produce the BG24 broadcast. This was all with the end goal of leveraging our content across multiple platforms to maximize reach.
With this great kickoff behind us, it’s time to get to work. We’re expecting this to be a great Fall for Falcon Media.
