BG24 is the student-produced newscast at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), airing weekly 10 times each semester on Thursday nights. BG24 is a great way to stay up to date on the latest news and events happening on campus and around the Bowling Green community.
“We’re coming in contact with all types of people not only on campus but out in the community,” said Jasmine Crighton, associate teaching professor and BG24 advisor.
Producing an episode of BG24 takes hard work and dedication from all students involved. The newscast is run entirely by students, who mostly volunteer their time.
“Almost everyone that works at BG24 are volunteers,” Jasmine said. “We have two paid members; one is the executive producer and the other one is the director of the show.”
BG24 has undergone many technological advancements in recent years, which have helped produce high-quality content and reach wider audiences, such as our alumni.
“It definitely helps to have all the video cameras and the recording technology that we need to go out and do interviews but also the control room and the studio space are so important in putting together the kind of newscast you see up on air,” said Jasmine.
A project that Jasmine is excited to work on with her students is the upcoming 2024 solar eclipse. Because Bowling Green is in its path, Jasmine says Falcon Media will be doing something big for the event.
“That’s [solar eclipse] something to look forward to because it will bring a lot of people to this town,” said Jasmine.
BG24 is important for our BGSU community because it provides an outlet for students to learn more about journalism and media production. By supporting BG24, alumni can make sure that this legacy continues.
There are many ways that alumni can show support for BG24. Alumni can donate to the Falcon Media fund, which helps students who are involved in the newscast. Alumni can also mentor current BG24 students and help them prepare for their careers.
Alumni can also stay connected with BG24 by following the newscast on social media and watching the newscast online on the Falcon Media website.
