Internships are all about gaining experience. Of course, you hope interns produce good work while they are with you, but how awesome is it when they help you not only achieve organizational objectives but actually vault you forward?

Such is the case with BG Falcon Media’s social media interns this semester. Our social media channels had operated without much structure and limited success so when Alex Muhlenkamp, Sara Klausmeier, and Grace Schneider came on board for their internships, they were charged with a simple, two-part mission – grow audience and increase engagement.

The results speak for themselves: a more than 200% increase in Facebook reach and a more than 2,000% increase in Instagram reach. In addition, engagement exceeded benchmarks on both platforms. At the same time, Twitter followers increased by 4% while impressions on the platform increased 16% and mentions increased 48%.

The strategy will evolve next semester, made possible because of the great groundwork built by these three students who not only took instruction and direction well but displayed creativity and initiative. Alex and Sara are public relations majors while Grace is a dietetics major.
